Richard King, who has been a partner with Tozers since 1983, is a commercial property and trusts lawyer, well known for his expertise in the field of charity law. A member of the Charity Law Association and contributor to its working parties, he advises all types of charities, both local, regional and national, and he acts for a number of schools. He is a trustee of a national charity and governor of an independent school, and a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners.
As well as creating or reconstituting a number of charities, Richard's recent work includes negotiating charity mergers or transfers and complex land and VAT deals for charities.
With his wife, Richard is much involved in work with children and adults with disabilities (he was for many years a trustee of an international charity, HCPT), as well as in church music and family history. He somehow finds time to play 'geriatric' cricket, and walking a spirited dog keeps him on the go the rest of the time.
Richard has been recognised as an expert in his field for many years, featuring in the latest editions of the Legal 500 and Chambers law directories, and is the only charity solicitor listed under Exeter in the Legal Experts 2011 directory, which puts him as one of only two acknowledged charity experts south west of Bristol.
Richard has also published in the Charity Law & Practice Review.
