Tim Watson - Trainee

"When undergoing a training contract, and even once you have qualified, you are undoubtedly unsure of your surroundings and you can easily become anxious about what lies ahead for you at the start of your legal career. However, as a trainee at Tozers, you are made to feel very welcome and receive a great deal of support from the very beginning.

You are supervised closely by experienced practitioners who provide a great environment in which to learn. No question is valueless and there is always help at hand. Tozers undertakes work in a number of different areas of law and the importance of inter-department cooperation is valued highly, meaning you are likely to receive experience on a wide range of legal issues.

There is also a significant emphasis placed on the social side of business at Tozers. All staff partake in summer activities funded by the firm, ranging from rounds of golf at the local pitch and putt to canoeing down to a pub on the Exe Estuary and having a barbeque. Many staff also get together for a game of football or netball."

Simon Mansfield - Trainee

"I wanted to pursue my legal career in the South West and Tozers was always one of the firms at the top of my list. Having heard horror stories from friends working in City firms in anonymous teams until 4am I wanted to work in a firm where I would be a valued member of the team and gain real hands-on experience. So far I have completed seats in the firm's Property and Clinical Negligence departments and in the latter have had the opportunity to be closely involved in a number of high profile cases which have attracted national press attention. Since joining Tozers I have never looked back. The whole firm has a very welcoming and supportive atmosphere and I would recommend Tozers to anyone looking for a training contract in the South West."

Guy Cartwright - Trainee

"The South West was an obvious place for me to locate to because work-life balance is important to me. Having said that, I wanted to work for a firm with reputation and ambition and which values their employees.

I was immediately taken with how friendly everyone at Tozers was and what a pleasant place it seemed to be to work – it was not like other law firms that I had spent time at. Fortunately for me, I was successful in my training contract application and I have not looked back since; I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed my training contract and very much hope I will be able to carry on working at Tozers once I qualify. I have done seats in both clinical negligence, private client and am currently doing a mixed seat in general litigation and commercial property. I have enjoyed all of my seats and every team I have worked in has demonstrated professionalism and excellence . I know from speaking to other trainees both nationwide and in the area what a great firm Tozers is to work for."

Natalie Bett - Trainee

"Having made the decision to relocate to the South West for my training contract, Tozers immediately became the firm I wanted to train with. Tozers attracts ambitious, committed and career-driven people without losing its commendable work-life balance. The result is a firm that it is enthusiastic about its future and its employees.

I completed my first seat in the Commercial Litigation department during which time I was able to attend several hearings at the Chancery Division of the High Court and perform my own advocacy in the County Court. I am currently completing my second seat in the Private Client department and receiving invaluable hands-on experience meeting clients and running files.

The South West is an incredible place to live and has so much to offer in terms of outdoor pursuits. I have tried more activities since moving here than ever before including wakeboarding, mountain biking and open-water swimming. Exeter is a welcoming and friendly city with striking surrounding areas and I cannot recommend it enough!"
