Tozers LLP's medical negligence solicitors become top performers

Local legal firm Tozers LLP has been acknowledged by the Legal Services Commission as one of the highest performers in the field of medical negligence law. In recent years, Tozers has been achieving success rates of between 50-60% as against success rates of 50% for what the Legal Services Commission terms the "top" performing clinical negligence firms - Tozers is therefore one of the most successful firms in the country.

Head of Tozers clinical negligence team, partner Tim Dyde, is delighted that his team has been acknowledged in this way and said: "We are achieving substantial compensation on behalf of our clients and making a real difference to the lives of people who have been injured as a result of medical accidents. We have a large and very experienced team engaged in this work, who over the last eighteen months have settled twenty-six cases for a total of over £22 million in damages. The success rate of up to 60% also means that it is more likely that we will be granted legal aid when we request that on behalf of our clients, who come not only from the South West but all over the country."

Amongst recent high profile cases dealt with by Tozers was a settlement worth £6.2 million for a child whose birth was mismanaged at Tiverton Hospital, and £4.1 million for a child who suffered severe brain damage following heart surgery at Bristol Royal Infirmary when she was 10 months old. The firm also continues to be instructed in a number of high-profile coroners' inquests, including the recent hearings into the deaths of Neville Badger, who died following a fire in his flat in Weston-super-Mare, and Cornish schoolgirl Sophie Waller who died of dehydration following dental treatment.

Tim Dyde, who is also a qualified Registered General Nurse with years of experience in major London teaching hospitals, leads a team of 10 lawyers. In the last year two of the team's experienced solicitors, Endurance Arthur and Stuart Bramley, have been promoted to partners, and associate solicitor Clair Hemming has been appointed to the Solicitors Regulation Authority's Clinical Negligence Panel.
