Tozers LLP sponsors concert for ELF

The Honeymead Ensemble string quintet led by artistic director Tamsin Waley-Cohen will be playing at St James' Church, Exeter on 25th April 2009 to raise money for Exeter Leukaemia Fund. This year's concert has been kindly sponsored by Tozers LLP solicitors.

This is the second year that the Honeymead Ensemble have performed to raise money for ELF. Mark Whittle ELF Fundraising Manager comments: "It is fantastic that Tamsin and the Honeymead Ensemble comprising of internationally renowned artists have agreed to perform for ELF again and great that Tozers LLP have agreed to sponsor the evening."

Tozers partner Richard Thorneycroft says his firm is delighted to continue its support of ELF by sponsoring the concert: "We are keen supporters of ELF particularly through our Wills campaign, where we will waive our charges for preparing simple Wills and instead invite a similar donation to the charity. Making a Will in this way not only gives peace of mind but also provides an opportunity for people to help ELF to continue its invaluable work in the future. We are very pleased to sponsor this concert performed by very talented musicians for such a good cause."

Last year's event at Hatherleigh was a sell out success. St James' Church in Exeter, which has a bigger capacity and known for its acoustics, is sure to be an excellent venue. Tickets are only £7.50 and are available by calling the ELF office on 01392 493344. The concert is certain to have a lot of interest so book your ticket early to avoid disappointment.

The Honeymead Ensemble string quintet this year comprises of Tamsin Waley-Cohen, (UK) - violin, Alena Baeva (Russia) - violin, Sarah-Jane Bradley (UK) -viola, Richard Harwood (UK) - cello, and Alfredo Zamarra (Italy) - viola.

The programme for this year's concert will be:-

Mozart G minor String quintet

The viola quintet was largely Mozart's own invention, and the G minor is an emotional work, full of yearning and unforgettable melodies.

Mendelssohn B flat String quintet.

2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth, and to celebrate it we will be playing one of his later masterpieces, which is evocative and enchanting.

Brahms F Major String quintet, op 88

For most of his life Brahms was so daunted by the perfection of Mozart's viola quintets that he dared not write one, but this work shows Brahms mature and confident. After he completed it he wrote to Clara Schumann "You have never before had such a beautiful work from me...this is one of my finest works."
