Tozers advises on Shepton Mallet colonoscopy misdiagnoses

Tozers' clinical negligence team have been instructed to advise on potential legal claims, including missed cancer, arising from the Shepton Mallet colonoscopy misdiagnoses, as reported on the BBC website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7671336.stm).

A consultant at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre was suspended last month after a large number of colonoscopies, a procedure to check for bowel disorders including cancer, were reassessed by health officials after fears that these were insufficiently thorough. Tozers believe these investigations were performed on nearly 2000 patients over 2½ years; of those, around 100 individuals have been advised to seek urgent follow up care. Over 1000 have been told to take additional measures and only 480 patients have been reassured that no further input is needed.

Clinical negligence partner Stuart Bramley said "This is a deeply worrying time for many people and Tozers are doing all we can to assist those who have been affected. Tozers has prior expertise in acting for large numbers of patients and experience of claims arising from treatment having been given at an Independent Sector Treatment Centre. Patients need to realise that the Centre at Shepton Mallet is not owned by the NHS but is run for profit by UKSH, which is a private healthcare provider and affiliated to an American healthcare provider."

Tozers has one of the largest and most experienced medical negligence teams in the South West and has vast experience of successfully acting for clients both in the West Country and nationally.
