The Head of Tozers clinical negligence department, Tim Dyde, comments on this story:

"I am pleased that the Nursing and Midwifery Council has imposed a restriction on this midwife that prohibits her working without insurance independently of the NHS. It is my belief that this should be the case with all midwives. Tozers' clinical negligence team are campaigning for a change in the law that currently allows independent midwives to practise outside the NHS without insurance. Should mistakes be made children can be born with disabilities without any recourse to compensation."
