The Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) has a high reputation for excellence and its members are responsible for ensuring the safety of the signalling systems on many miles of railway in many countries.
So when they were faced with the case of a signal engineer who approved a faulty alteration to a set of railway points which resulted in a near incident only moments later, they acted decisively in revoking his testing licences. The engineer did not appreciate this action and took his case to the High Court to challenge the IRSE's decision. His claim was dismissed with costs and the IRSE's procedures and dealing with the matter received the approval of the Judge.
