Four partners from one department become 'Leaders in Field'

Exeter solicitors in Tozers LLP’s medical negligence and personal injury department are celebrating as all the partners in this department have been nominated ‘Leaders in their Field’ by the legal bible Chambers & Partners.

Tim Dyde, Tony Mills, Endurance Arthur and Stuart Bramley have all been recognised not least because Tozers LLP has been acknowledged by the Legal Services Commission as one of the highest performers in the field of medical negligence law.

Head of Tozers clinical negligence team, partner Tim Dyde, is delighted that his team has been singled out in this way and said: “We are achieving substantial compensation on behalf of our clients and making a real difference to the lives of people who have been injured as a result of medical accidents.  We have a large and very experienced team engaged in this work, who over the last eighteen months have settled twenty-six cases for clients all over the country for a total of over £22 million in damages.”

Amongst recent high profile cases dealt with by Tozers was that of Victoria and Daisy Anderson which was reported in the national newspapers and saw Victoria appearing on ITV’s This Morning show and being interviewed by Jeremy Vine on his Radio 2 lunchtime show.  Tim advised Mrs Anderson on her own claim for personal injuries resulting from the botched birth as well as on her daughter Daisy’s legal claim.  Furthermore, Tim advised Mrs Anderson in relation to the complaint made to the National Midwifery Council (NMC) about  Sue Rose - the midwife employed for Daisy’s birth - which led to the NMC Fitness to Practise hearing at which Sue Rose was struck off the Midwifery Register.  This case drew attention to the dangers of independent midwives practising without professional indemnity insurance and last month the Government ordered a review of this, which may result in professional indemnity insurance becoming mandatory for independent midwives.

Other highlights for Tozers’ clinical negligence team include a settlement worth £6.2 million for a child whose birth was mismanaged at Tiverton Hospital, and £4.1 million for a child who suffered severe brain damage following heart surgery at Bristol Royal Infirmary when she was 10 months old.
