But the Government has still not decided who should be the principal regulatory body to oversee these "new" school bodies so late last year it revoked one of the regulations so that the Charity Commission will continue to monitor Academies for the time being. Until a new regulator is selected, Academies will have to register with the Charity Commission and Academies will not attract exempt charity status.

It was previously suggested that the Young People's Learning Agency would be given the regulatory role but this is now in doubt and the Government has given no indication as to when the decision will be made.
