Lawyers put their oar in for charity

On 1 July 2011, three lawyers at Tozers LLP rowed the length of a marathon on rowing machines outside Tozers LLP's Exeter office, Broadwalk House on Southernhay West, in support of FORCE cancer charity. Trainee legal executive Oliver Thorne, 29, and Tim Davies, 25, and trainee solicitor Guy Cartwright, 27, each rowed 26.2 miles to raise funds for the charity.

FORCE is Tozers LLP's charity of the year and Tim, who works for the medical negligence department, suggested the row to attempt to raise funds in support of this charity. He said on completing the row: "Truly horrific but glad we did it for such a good cause!"

All three lawyers finished the row in just over three hours, even though trainee solicitor Guy, who works for Tozers LLP's commercial litigation department, had suffered a serious ankle break 10 weeks ago. He comments: "I definitely feel Tozers have done their bit for charity this year! Don't think I can ever sit down again!"

The trio has raised well in excess of £900 with sponsorship money still coming in, with almost £100 of that being donated on the day from generous passers by.

Oliver, who lives in Bideford, also rows for Appledore Gig Club, and incidentally had plans to row for them the day following the charity marathon row. He also works for the medical negligence team and commented: "It was great test of stamina and endurance and I would like to say a huge thank you to the people out and about in Southernhay for donating money to such a worthwhile charity."
