Community Energy Plus, the Cornish based charity that aims to deliver local energy solutions and fight climate change has today announced that charities and businesses based in Cornwall and Devon could get access to a huge investment scheme aimed at stimulating the region's energy self sufficiency and cutting energy bills.

CEP have also confirmed that the initial £20 million investment package will be extended to benefit businesses in Devon. The investment has been used to pilot a highly successful scheme to place solar panels on south facing roofs in Cornwall in response to the introduction of Feed in Tariffs in April 2010. The tariffs provide incentives to encourage investment in small scale low carbon electricity in return for a guaranteed payment for the electricity generated and exported.
Under the scheme, solar panels are provided by a number of Cornwall based Solar PV Companies free of charge so long as they are installed before March 2012. The project is the largest of its kind in the UK and could potentially benefit many local businesses concerned about rising fuel costs in a difficult economic climate.
The scheme is available for the following freehold/leasehold buildings based in either Devon or Cornwall with ideally a southerly orientation:
• Village halls and community centres
• Churches
• GP Surgeries
• Charity or Social Enterprises
• Private or Church Schools
• Businesses
• Farms buildings
Businesses or charities that are interested should contact Community Energy Plus to register and arrange a no-obligation site survey.
If you would like more information about the scheme, see the CEP webpage link below:

Although the CEP envisages a relatively straightforward process, in some circumstances it might be advisable to obtain independent legal advice for when:
• Business Premises are shared
• Obtaining planning permission or listed building consent
• Feed in Tariffs operation if you seek to share the income
• Reviewing/negotiating contracts to install panels
Tozers are experienced in both these areas and act for businesses, charitable organisation and schools.
