Royal Assent was granted on 15th November 2011, completing the final stage of the legislative process and placing the Localism Act 2011 on to the statute books. Housing practitioners will be aware of the significant reforms being introduced via this Act, probably the most significant changes to social housing since the Housing Acts 1985, 1988 and 1996.
The pure 'housing' reforms are contained within Part 7 of the Act, and it is anticipated that most of the provisions relating to housing will be brought in to force via secondary legislation by April 2012.
An updated guide (in plain English) of all of the broad ranging reforms introduced by the Act was also released by the Department for Communities and Local Government on 15th November 2011. For a copy of the guide please click here
