The on-going economic problems have meant that company closures and administrations have hit the headlines in recent times, locally the most notable being Axminster Carpets. Administration provides struggling, and predominantly insolvent, companies the opportunity to restructure and/or realise their assets. An administrator is appointed to take over the running of the company in place of the directors. Once a company has been placed into administration, creditors are prevented from making claims against the company. Administration is designed to give companies a 'fighting chance' of turning things around whilst their debts are effectively put on hold.
