Administering the affairs of a relative or friend can be a complicated and traumatic process. The legal terms and procedural matters involved can be confusing and frustrating. Tozers’ private client team can help lift or share the burden.
We can guide you from the initial steps through to the final matters of administering and distributing the estate.
If the deceased left a Will, Tozers can help the Executors interpret the deceased’s wishes and advise on how to carry them out. If there is no Will, we will guide you through the procedure involved and advise on who is entitled to receive a share of the estate.
Ownership of certain assets belonging to the deceased cannot be transferred to those entitled to receive them until the Court has confirmed that somebody has authority to deal with the deceased’s assets. This is done by applying to the Court for a grant of representation.
It is important to ensure that assets are dealt with correctly to avoid complications in years to come or possible disadvantageous tax consequences.
