Almost 26,000 people seek domestic abuse advice following The Archers storyline and documentary

The Archers character, Helen Titchener’s abuse by her husband covered issues of sexual abuse, emotional abuse and self-harm culminating in a murder trial. The BBC also covered domestic violence issues further in documentary, Behind Closed Doors.

This coverage prompted 24,400 people to visit the BBC’s webpages and more than 1,350 people to call for advice.

A donation page inspired by The Archers’ storyline has raised more than £135,000 over the course of 7 months in support of Refuge, the national charity that provides advice to victims of domestic abuse.
