Breakthrough victory for GBS Support charity who will produce a joint leaflet with the RCOG for all pregnant women

Stuart Bramley, a solicitor specialising in GBS claims, notes:-

“This development illustrates why the entire campaign by Group B Strep Support has been so worthwhile. To me, just three statistics put the problem starkly – GBS leads to two babies dying each month in the UK; it leaves 3 babies handicapped each month; and if antibiotics are given to a mum carrying Strep B during the birth, the likelihood of her baby contracting the infection are reduced ten-fold. In the legal claims I handle, time and time again it is clear that the problem is either caused or exacerbated by lack of GBS knowledge by the treating clinicians. If that can be addressed by disseminating knowledge not just amongst doctors, nurses and midwives but also parents-to-be, hopefully this will make a real change in defeating this dreadful infection. GBSS and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) are to be congratulated on this amazing initiative”.
