Clinical Negligence

Location

Exeter, Devon

Deadline

Tozers LLP is a leading firm of solicitors with offices in Exeter, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot offering an extensive legal service to businesses and individuals both locally and nationally.  We are recognised in both the Legal 500 and Chambers UK legal directories for our clinical negligence, for which we have a national reputation particularly in respect of birth injuries.

Our busy clinical negligence team in Exeter now requires a secretary to work full-time. Priding ourselves on the high levels of client care that we give to all of our clients, you will be joining a team that is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for our clients.

The work primarily involves claims by patients and their families in respect of healthcare which fell below an acceptable standard, causing serious harm. We are seen as national experts in CNI and draw clients from widely across England and Wales. Although a very small part of our caseload we also act for those who have suffered serious, life-changing personal injury after accidents.

We aim to take a flexible approach to our working hours and welcome applications from anyone who feels suited to the role but would like to discuss this first.  It is probable that the role will involve a combination of working from our office in Southernhay and working from home.

What you’ll be doing

The team is currently transitioning to a mainly paper-free working practice and it will be an advantage but not essential if you are familiar with electronic documentation.

You will have excellent IT skills and be familiar with using software for creating bundles of documents.  Ideally but not essentially you will have used the case management system SOS.  It will be an advantage if you also have experience of civil litigation.

The role involves providing assistance and support to two solicitors who are Partners and joint Heads of the Clinical Negligence & Injury team and to the rest of the team as needed.

What we’re looking for

You will be very well organised and will enjoy assisting others.  You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and will be happy to adapt to the different requirements of the tasks facing you.  Ideally you will be able to demonstrate your problem-solving skills and how you have used these in your previous positions; and that you can respond to busy periods cheerfully and efficiently, providing excellent audio-typing and all-round secretarial support.

What you’ll have

An ability to work closely with others of varying levels and a willingness to work as part of a team with the aim of achieving a common goal would be beneficial.

What we have

We believe that our people are our most important asset, and are committed to supporting our teams, cultivating a healthy culture of challenge and expectation with support and care. We invest in our teams and our infrastructure to ensure that we attract and retain talented staff, and are committed to giving all colleagues the opportunity to reach their full potential, with a real focus on training and development.
