Between April 2015 and March 2016 Cafcass received a total of 37,374 private law cases showing an increase of 9% on the previous year.

There have been a number of cases recently concerning the relocation of children, either within the UK (internal) or internationally (external).
In December 2015 the Court of Appeal handed down a judgment on a father’s appeal regarding an internal relocation. The court considered the principles to be applied in internal relocation cases and the differences in the courts’ approach to internal or external relocations.
Lady Justice Black concluded that the welfare principle dictates the result in internal relocation cases just as it does in international relocation cases and that there is no reason to differentiate between the two.
