Premises licences

A premises licence will not be time-limited and will last until it is either revoked, surrendered, suspended or the licence holder becomes insolvent or dies. However, the Police or another Responsible Authority (such as Environmental Health), or indeed any other person have powers under the Licensing Act 2003 to apply for a review of the premises licence if there are concerns about how the premises are being operated and whether the licensing objectives are being upheld.

Notice must be given to the licence holder and the application for a review must be advertised by the local authority. Representations about the premises will be considered by the Licensing Authority to assess whether they relate to the licensing objectives or whether they are frivolous and/or vexatious.

If the representations are valid then a hearing will be held to be determined by the Local Authority’s licensing sub-committee.
