Deadline for Primary Chain Development Grants extended

School library books

The one-off grant will now be available until 30 April 2016 as the Government continues its support for primary schools to become part of academy chains.

The grant of up to £100,000 will only be offered where specific criteria are met:

  • In cases where 3 schools (the majority of which are primary schools) are creating a new Multi Academy Trust (MAT); and/or
  • Where stand-alone open academies and schools converting to academies are creating a MAT with a minimum of 3 schools (2 of which are primary and not including a sponsor-led school).

Other grants are available where groups of primary schools are joining existing MATs and the Small School Supplement may be offered to schools with under 210 pupils who are joining a MAT.

There are further conditions attached to the grant once it has been received.  For further information on the grants, forming a MAT or academy conversion generally please contact our academies team for schools legal advice at or call on 01392 207020
