Government Proposal to Create a Minimum 3 Year Tenancy

House with a key in the door

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, is currently consulting on a proposal to create a minimum 3 year residential (assured shorthold) tenancy. The minimum security of tenure at present is six months.

The Government considers tenants face instability as a result of shorter tenancies and that their proposals will reduce the costs involved with more frequent renewals.

The consultation closes on the 26th of August and applies to England only. You can view and respond to the consultation by visiting: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/overcoming-the-barriers-to-longer-tenancies-in-the-private-rented-sector.

The proposal would affect Park Owners who rent residential property on their park on assured shorthold tenancies.
