Young Girl ‘Died of Meningitis’ Just Hours After She Was Sent Home From Hospital

Girl, four, ‘died of meningitis’ just hours after she was sent home from the hospital.

Tozers’ partner Stuart Bramley writes –

“If the facts in this article are correct it is breathtaking that a child with agitation, vomiting, floppiness and a temperature of 104 could be sent home from hospital. Any clinician treating Grace who was aware of these should have suspected and checked for meningitis immediately. I do hope next week’s inquest gives the Foster family all the answers they need – I have acted for too many bereaved relatives in Coroners’ Courts where the real issues have been evaded by NHS witnesses, although in fairness there have been a great many examples where staff have been commendably frank and open about possible failings, and I hope that is what will happen here.

Regardless of the inquest findings, however, it is always tragic when meningitis claims yet another young victim. The family’s solicitor is quite right that ideally, this story should raise awareness of the condition and its symptoms so that what happened to Grace is less likely to recur”.
