From 06 April 2017, the employment tribunal awards and statutory payments will increase from the current rates in accordance with The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2017:

  • The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal will increase from £78,962 to £80,541. In addition there is a basic award which is similar to that of a redundancy payment;
  • The maximum amount of a week’s pay used to calculate statutory redundancy payments and additional awards including compensation for certain unfair dismissal claims rises from £479 to £489;
  • The minimum amount of basic award of compensation for certain unfair dismissal claims (for example unfair dismissals for performing health and safety duties, unfair dismissals for being a Trade Union representative etc.) will increase from £5,853 to £5,970.

The new rates will apply where the effective date of termination of employment is on or after 06 April 2017.
