Erb's Palsy Solicitors

Erb's Palsy Solicitors

Tozers are the leading medical negligence solicitors in the country in Erb's Palsy claims having conducted over 260 claims in the last 20 years.

We have achieved the highest ever award of damages (£1,250,000) for a claimant with Erb’s Palsy.

Erb’s Palsy, also known as Brachial Plexus Palsy, is usually caused by an injury sustained to a baby at birth when difficulties arise during delivery. If the baby’s shoulder gets stuck after the head has been delivered, the nerves in the trapped shoulder can be stretched and injured through attempts to deliver.  This can affect some or all of the nerves that supply movement to the shoulder, arm, wrist and hand. The severity of the injury can vary with each child and depends on how many of the nerves have been damaged and to what extent. Some children get better on their own, others require specialist treatment including surgery and may even be left with a permanent disability. Some examples of the disability are:

  • an elbow that doesn’t bend
  • forearm turned inward and wrist bent
  • total paralysis of the arm and hand

We know that it can be devastating to discover that your child has suffered a brachial plexus injury. Injuries occur often as a result of a traumatic birth and we understand how difficult it can be to cope emotionally after such an experience, looking after a child that requires additional care and faced with a lifelong injury.

The wealth of experience we have in this specialist area means that we understand the current legal, medical and practical issues, we have access to the leading experts and barristers, and our success rates and level of damages recovered are the highest in the Country.  We frequently take over Erb’s Palsy claims from less experienced solicitors.

We have strong links with the Erb’s Palsy Group, a national charity which offers advice, information and support to families affected by Erb’s Palsy. We have worked closely with the charity for more than 20 years offering our support to help them achieve their aim of increasing awareness and promoting better understanding of this condition. The group strives to reduce incidence rates through education and training of the medical profession but also to promote better treatment, by early referral to specialist centres.

Our work with the Erb’s Palsy Group means that we understand your needs and concerns and can support you through the compensation process aiming to make it as pain free as possible.

We are delighted that our caring approach is reflected by our client’s feedback: “I heard about Tozers though the Erb’s Palsy Group and from the minute I telephoned I felt that they understood.  I liked the fact that no matter how many times I called or asked questions I was never made to feel stupid or like I wasting people’s time.” Mrs Bonita Digby
