Weight Loss Surgery Negligence

Weight Loss Surgery Negligence

Weight loss surgery is also known as bariatric surgery and is designed to enable a person to lose weight.

There are two main types of surgery. A gastric band can be used to reduce the size of the stomach or a gastric bypass re-routes the digestive system past most of the stomach. Both procedures are designed to reduce the amount of food you can ingest.

Typically negligent weight loss surgery claims arise as a result of the following:

  • gastric band placed at the wrong angle or not positioned correctly causing a blockage
  • bypass joins not stapled correctly causing a leak
  • too large a bypass – leading to dumping syndrome
  • infection
  • poor post operative care

Negligent bariatric surgery can lead to seriously unpleasant symptoms which can impact significantly upon your quality of life. In some tragic instances it has caused death.

If you or a member of your family have concerns about the bariatric surgery or the care you have received post operatively please contact one of our experienced lawyers.
