Paul Zaleski | Marathon Training Diary

Teignmouth Promenade Parkrun

With just over two months to go until Exeter Marathon, we caught up with Paul Zaleski for a training update and learnt how his eclectic taste in music is helping:

“Since my last blog post, I have been increasing my weekly mileage to 20/22 miles including a wet and windy 12 mile run last Sunday which was quite hard going.

As a perfect antidote to the longer runs being rather tedious, I’ve managed to pop down to the always excellent Teignmouth Promenade Parkrun the last two Saturdays which has really helped to generate a bit more enthusiasm and serves as a reminder that running is meant to be fun! A huge thank you to all the volunteers who make the parkrun possible each week, always with a smile on their faces. It is very inspiring (and demoralising) to see myself being overtaken by so many under 14s!

What also helps with those longer runs is a good playlist. Recently my runs have been accompanied by a somewhat varied soundtrack with classic AC/DC and Beastie Boys merging seamlessly with George Ezra and The Catchy Song from the new Lego Movie – obviously from the kid’s music collection!”

Paul is running in the Exeter Marathon to raise money for Tozers’ charity of the year, Age UK Exeter. If you would like to donate, please visit his JustGiving page here.
