Consultant Solicitor

Richard King

“I aim to help charities and schools by giving them the constitutional framework to deliver their services in the best way possible with minimal distraction. Trustees and CEOs have a huge number of regulations, best practice and protocols to contend with. We try to help them make sense of these so they can see the wood for the trees and get on with helping their beneficiaries”

Richard is a Consultant Solicitor supporting the Charities and Social Enterprises team. He enjoyed 35 years as a Partner in the firm, having qualified in 1979. Richard still handles some ongoing specialist charity matters and provides advice on technical issues to both colleagues and clients.

Richard is a member of the Charity Law Association and, as a member of the professional body, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, a ‘TEP’. Whilst in full practice he was regularly recognised by both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500. He is also Chairman or Trustee of a variety of charities and until recently trustee of two national charities.

Richard thoroughly enjoys working in the charity sector, where he recognises and mirrors the social responsibility many of our clients and individuals respect. Generally advising either trustees, or chief executives or finance directors, he is focused on exceptional service and adding value through the breadth of his knowledge.

Richard is often seen attending networking events involving charities or their advisers, using his and the broader team’s networks for the benefit of our clients.

In addition to his role as Consultant Solicitor, Richard is also Tozers’ Chairman. Outside of work, his various charity roles include taking disabled children and adults to Lourdes each year for over 50 years. For this and other services to the Catholic church he was awarded a papal knighthood with the title of ‘Knight of St Gregory’. Richard is also a ‘geriatric’ cricketer and a developing golfer.
