Tozers’ Staff Raise Over £8,000 To Help Build Exeter Leukaemia Fund’s New Family Suite

The Charity and Social Responsibility Committee members at Tozers Solicitors LLP recently made a trip to see how the firm’s fundraising efforts have benefitted Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) which were Tozers’ charity of the year in 2016.

All of Tozers’ 130 staff from their Exeter, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot offices got behind ELF’s Chevithorne Appeal which meant raising as much money as possible to help towards the cost of ELF’s new family suite.

Fundraising activities at Tozers included an office tuckshop, cake sales, “Tour de Tozers”, an auction and a quiz night. Staff also supported ELF by volunteering to do bucket collections, setting up a Charity Ball committee and taking over a charity shop for the day.

Tozers’ Partner and Chair of the CSR Committee, Endurance Arthur has expressed her delight for the firm’s efforts: “We have had a fantastic year working with ELF. Our staff responded to the challenge to help raise monies for the Chevithorne appeal in some really imaginative ways. It is a pleasure to see the family suite on Yarty ward now completed and we are all delighted to have helped to make such a difference to Devon’s haematology patients.”

ELF’s new family suite is now complete and has been dedicated to patients who are undergoing end of life hospital care. It offers many homely comforts as well as being spacious and well-lit. There are two additional bedrooms to the patient’s, it also has basic kitchen facilities and modern furnishings. Other features include a private courtyard, large television and high street-sourced bedding which gets laundered by ELF as opposed to going in with the main hospital wash.

Alison Upton heads the fundraising team at ELF and recently showed the Charity and Social Committee around the charity’s innovative new building. She had this to say: “It was a real pleasure to work with the enthusiastic team at Tozers.  We are thrilled that so much was raised and the money will help families here in Devon through the ELF Family Suite.”

ELF provides transport, accommodation and guidance services to families whose lives have been turned upside down following a diagnosis. ELF also funds roles within the Haematology Ward and research into treatment. The charity relies upon support from businesses and individuals and Alison is very keen to hear from anybody who may be interested in raising money for ELF: You can also find ELF on twitter at or Facebook at
