Plan for the future and provide for your loved ones. Our experienced Wills solicitors and dedicated team help you put the right arrangements in place, with practical advice on making a Will and arranging Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA).

Many of us put off making a Will or thinking about Lasting Powers of Attorney. It can be overwhelming to consider a time when we're no longer around or perhaps unable to make decisions for ourselves.

But these are both important legal steps to take to protect yourself and your loved ones in the future.

Life can be unpredictable. Making a Will and arranging a Lasting Power of Attorney keeps you in control, with the peace of mind that your wishes will be respected when the time comes.

Our Wills solicitors are here to make the process as straightforward as possible. We explain your options carefully, with clear advice tailored to your circumstances. This helps you make informed decisions, so you can feel confident about your plans.

Making a Will

Your Will is a crucial document. It allows you to provide for your loved ones after you're gone, passing on your assets and wealth in the way that you would like.

When it comes to making your Will, you may already have an idea of what you want it to cover or you may not be sure where to begin.

Everybody's situation is different. Our expert Wills solicitors listen to what is important to you, taking into account your current position and long-term goals to recommend the right solution for your requirements.

We advise on:

  • Making a Will that reflects your unique circumstances - whether this is a straightforward Will, a Will involving multiple legacies or a Trust Will with ongoing trust
  • Succession planning for individuals, business owners, and farmers.
  • Inheritance Tax – planning ahead to minimise the tax burden by taking advantage of available reliefs and exemptions.
  • Navigating more complicated family situations – for example, by establishing a Trust to distribute and manage certain assets.
  • Leaving specific gifts or legacies.
  • Choosing guardians for any children under 18.

Our Wills solicitors take you through your options, including our fixed-fee Wills packages for those whose instructions are settled and more straightforward, as well as bespoke services where you require a more complex Will. We make sure your Will covers everything you need, so you can feel reassured you’ve made the right arrangements for your loved ones after you’re gone.

Protecting your business

As a business owner, it's important to plan ahead to protect your business from disruption should you become incapacitated or pass away unexpectedly. This allows you to safeguard both your own personal legacy, as well as your employees, partners and customers from uncertainty.

We discuss your situation, helping you put a well-drafted Will in place that addresses your business interests. A Lasting Power of Attorney can allow trusted individuals to make crucial business decisions on your behalf, ensuring continuity in your operations.

Lasting Powers of Attorney

Nobody wants to think that there may come a time when we’re unable to make decisions for ourselves. But it's vital to have these conversations and plan for certain situations when you can.

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to choose somebody to make decisions on your behalf if you no longer have the mental capacity to do so yourself. This can make life easier for both you and your family further down the line, ensuring everything continues to be dealt with smoothly, in accordance with your wishes.

Without a Lasting Power of Attorney, the Court of Protection may need to appoint somebody to handle your affairs. It’s therefore important to make your own arrangements. However, it’s normal to have a lot of questions about how these will work in practice.

There are two different types of Lasting Powers of Attorney, Property & Finance and Health & Welfare, and you may want to put both of these in place, or just one.

Our dedicated team talk you through what each involves, explaining everything in plain English. We address all the practicalities and make sure you’re comfortable with the plans you’re making.

This includes discussing:

  • Potential care requirements and health decisions
  • How to manage your finances and assets
  • Arrangements for your business
  • Your choice of attorney (or attorneys).

Lasting Powers of Attorney can be complex, so it’s essential to speak to an experienced solicitor to avoid future complications. We work with you to make sure your Lasting Power of Attorney:

  • Reflects your specific circumstances and wishes
  • Safeguards your best interests
  • Is carefully worded to avoid confusion or disputes in the future
  • Is completed correctly to ensure its validity.
