Changes to Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Fees from November 2025
Posted on in Wills & LPAs
The Ministry of Justice has announced an upcoming adjustment to fees for applications to register a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). Starting 17 November 2025, the standard application fee will increase from £82 to £92 per LPA application (GOV.UK). This fee increase aims to align the revenue from LPA applications with the operational costs of the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
What applicants need to know
- Applications submitted to the OPG on or after 17 November 2025 will require the new fee of £92. Applications submitted before that date will be processed at the current rate of £82.
- Individuals may still qualify for a fee exemption (i.e., paying no fee) or a fee remission (i.e., reduced fee), depending on financial circumstances. Clients should review eligibility criteria in advance to determine whether they qualify.
- The fee update is in line with His Majesty’s Treasury guidance under the "Managing Public Money" framework, which governs how public service costs are recovered and aligned with actual service delivery expenses.
Why this matters to you
At Tozers, our priority is ensuring clients receive both timely and accurate advice—especially on matters where administrative deadlines and procedural details can affect planning decisions.
- For individuals planning to establish an LPA later in 2025, it may be advantageous to submit applications before 17 November to take advantage of the lower £82 fee.
- Clients with limited financial resources may be eligible for fee relief. We recommend assessing whether exemption or remission options apply.
- As this change is subject to parliamentary approval, we will track any updates going forward. Should implementation be delayed or altered, we will issue timely notifications to keep clients fully informed.
