Resolution’s Good Divorce Week 2025
Posted on in Family Law
The 10th – 14th November 2025 marks Resolution’s annual Good Divorce Week. The week aims to highlight the need to improve the available support for families experiencing divorce and separation. At Tozers, our Family team are members of Resolution, which is an organisation committed to promoting a constructive way of working in Family Law. This commitment, in turn, helps focus on achieving better outcomes for families and their children who are seeking to move forward.
Much of society sees divorce as a life event surrounded in conflict, upset, and dispute, ultimately resulting in Court action. However, the reality is and should be different, with Court action being the very last resort. Alternative paths can not only be less stressful and financially viable, but also far less damaging for future relationships, particularly where children and coparenting are involved. Applications to Court may be the right choice for some couples in setting parameters; however, it need not be the standard. Focus should be on how lawyers can help families avoid this from becoming a necessity. There are plentiful alternative options, including instructing a solicitor to aid discussions, mediation, collaborative law, arbitration, and even direct discussions if you and your spouse are able to engage in this.
Code of Practice
Resolution members are set apart from other family professionals primarily by their commitment to the Code of Practice. The Code aims to support clients in resolving their matters as constructively, whilst with as little impact, as can be done. The Code contains practical guidance on how our Family team operates day-to-day, ensuring a non-confrontational approach and assisting clients take more control over the process than they would comparatively have in the Court arena. You can review the full Code here, but to summarise, the Code ensures:
- We avoid inflammatory language
- We support and encourage families to put the best interests of children first
- We act with honesty, integrity, and objectivity
- We help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of their decisions
- We promote communication and collaboration wherever possible
- We use experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them
Tozers’ commitment goes beyond simply joining Resolution, but ensuring we strive to meet their values and play our part in bettering the family justice system. Good Divorce Week provides an opportunity to shine a light on this approach – one which ensures children’s best interests come first, reduces conflict, and encourages solutions which work for all involved. Every family is deserving of a better way to be guided through separation, which is constructive, compassionate, and fair.
Divorce is a very personal matter, and it is important to instruct a lawyer who suits you, ensures you are listened to, and guides you through the process with expert advice. For any help with separation, divorce, or support with child arrangements, please contact our dedicated Family team at Tozers, who would be happy to assist.
