Helena is an Associate and Chartered Legal Executive within our specialist Medical Negligence team. She assists on complex, high-value medical negligence cases, supporting some of the most vulnerable clients who have suffered life-changing injuries.
With extensive experience across a broad range of medical negligence claims, Helena’s particular interests lie in cases involving baby loss, neonatal death, and birth injuries, as well as meningitis and other obstetric or gynaecological injuries. She also works closely with families affected by cancer, sepsis (including Group B strep), and complications arising from delayed diagnosis or surgical error.
Helena is deeply committed to helping families who have lost loved ones due to substandard medical care, ensuring they receive not only compensation but also the answers and accountability they deserve. She has a particular specialism in Fatal Accidents Act claims.
She works collaboratively with charities and support organisations to ensure her clients receive holistic care throughout the legal process and beyond. Helena is passionate about nurturing these relationships to provide empathetic, well-rounded support alongside the highest standards of legal representation.
Helena began her legal career in 2003 within the high-value personal injury sector before specialising in medical negligence in 2013. She qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in November 2019 and is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel. She has also been recognised as a Key Lawyer in the Legal 500 directory as part of our firm’s Top Tier Clinical Negligence team.
Beyond her legal work, Helena serves as a trustee for Luna’s Fund, a South West baby loss and neonatal death charity, where she helped establish the legal panel and facilitates legal clinics for bereaved families. She is also an ambassador and befriender for the Meningitis Research Foundation, supporting fundraising campaigns and awareness initiatives.
Helena is an accredited civil and commercial mediator, a faculty member of the Society of Mediators, and a member of the Civil Mediation Council. She also sits on the committee of the Association of South West Mediators, hosting training events, and is a panel mediator for the NHS Resolution-approved mediation panel, Trust Mediation.
Outside of work, Helena enjoys spending time by the sea with her husband, daughter, two cats, and miniature dachshund.
“Supporting clients and their families following medical negligence is deeply rewarding. I strive to combine empathy with clear, practical legal advice to achieve the best possible outcomes in what can be an overwhelming and complex process. I also value building lasting links with charities and organisations that can continue to support my clients long after their legal cases conclude.”
