James is a Solicitor in Tozers’ Employment team, advising both employers and employees on a range of employment law matters.
He assists employees with settlement agreements, explaining their meaning and effect and, where appropriate, negotiating more favourable terms with employers or their representatives. For employers, James reviews and advises on employment contracts and policies, including ensuring that contracts reflect current legal requirements and upcoming changes under the Employment Rights Act 2025.
James also assists with redundancy and unfair dismissal matters, day-to-day employment and HR queries, and Employment Tribunal casework.
He particularly enjoys applying complex legal principles to real-life situations in a straightforward and practical way. He has a particular interest in employment status, having explored the area in depth in his undergraduate dissertation, and enjoys keeping up to date with developments in employment law and the changes introduced by the Employment Rights Act 2025.
James takes a personable and efficient approach to his work, with a focus on providing clear, cost-effective advice.
Before joining Tozers, James trained at a high street firm in Plymouth, where he gained valuable experience in dispute resolution and litigation. He completed the Legal Practice Course alongside full-time work, achieving a distinction, and qualified as a solicitor on 7 April 2026.
Outside work, James enjoys running, spending time outdoors, playing the drums and following a range of sports.
