Tozers is delighted to congratulate Jessica Whittick, who was Highly Commended in the Solicitor of the Year category at the DASLS Legal Awards 2026.

The recognition celebrates Jessica's exceptional contribution to both the firm and its clients, as well as her commitment to the wider community. Having been shortlisted earlier this year, receiving the Highly Commended accolade is a fantastic achievement and reflects the impact she has made in a relatively short space of time.

As not all categories featured a Highly Commended distinction, this recognition also highlights just how close-run and competitive the category was, underlining the strength of Jessica’s entry and the quality of her work.

Jessica has played a key role in developing Tozers' Intellectual Property and Data Protection offering, establishing dedicated specialist services and advising clients on complex and high-risk matters. She is recognised for combining technical expertise with commercially focused advice, helping businesses protect their brands, navigate regulatory challenges and resolve disputes efficiently.

Alongside her client work, Jessica is a passionate advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion, mentors aspiring lawyers and has been instrumental in leading Tozers' fundraising efforts for Hospiscare through the 40 Club, helping to raise more than £14,000 over the past three years.

The awards ceremony was a fantastic evening, with colleagues from the firm coming together to celebrate the achievements of the legal profession across the region. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise Jessica's success and enjoy celebrating alongside fellow finalists and winners.

ICO Fine Waived After Serious Data Breach Following Cyberattack

Following an extensive data breach, our client faced a £180,000 fine by the ICO and reputational harm. Following a detailed analysis of the circumstances, Jessica swiftly challenged the penalty notice, highlighting factual errors and mitigating factors. The ICO responded by waiving the fine in its entirety.

Swift Response to Data Breach Claim

Jessica responded to an urgent claim for £40,000 for six allegations of infringement of data rights against a client in the affordable housing sector. After reviewing extensive documentation she was able, in a robust response, to clearly set out why she considered there was no legal basis for the allegations. The Claimant chose not to pursue the matter further.

ICO Complaint Resolved Without Enforcement Action

Jessica responded to an urgent ICO complaint involving a client’s delayed Subject Access request (SAR) response. After reviewing extensive documents, she submitted detailed representations which cited significant mitigating factors and improvement steps. The ICO accepted our explanation and closed the case with no further action.

Successful Result for Data Breach Client

Acted on behalf of a client who was issued with a notice of intent for over £180,000 as a result of a data breach. We sent written representations that were successful, resulting in the investigation being dropped and the fine waived in its entirety.

Protecting Key IP in a Consultant Conflict

After a dispute with a former consultant, our client faced copyright infringement claims over key business materials. We responded swiftly with strategic correspondence that led to an early settlement, securing full IP ownership and protecting future use. We then collaborated with our Employment Team to strengthen consultancy agreements and safeguard IP going forward.

Rapid Resolution - Trade Mark Secured

When two trade mark applications threatened our client’s business, we moved fast, filing oppositions and presenting strong arguments to the IPO. The result: both marks were withdrawn and we secured a contribution to legal costs, achieving a swift and cost effective resolution.

Settling a Major IP Battle Online

We advised a successful online business facing trademark infringement allegations from a major social media platform, resulting in account suspension and a trademark opposition. Through strategic negotiation, we secured a cost free settlement, ensured account reinstatement, and guided a full rebrand including clearance and registration without opposition.

Court Order Setting Aside to Protect Trust Assets

Setting aside an erroneous court order which wrongfully purported to dispose of trust assets.

Annulled Bankruptcy Through Complex Negotiations

Annulment of bankruptcy of a client who owned c.£3m freehold assets necessitating careful negotiation with the Trustee in Bankruptcy (represented by a city firm and specialist insolvency counsel) and the petitioning creditors (a national utility supplier represented by in house legal counsel).
