Tozers’ busy and growing Wealth Management Team is looking for a candidate to deliver professional and proactive support to its fee-earners and a friendly contact for our more vulnerable client base.
The successful candidate will focus on providing support to our Court of Protection experts. This will involve helping to manage the property and financial affairs of our vulnerable clients.
What you’ll be doing
You will be part of a friendly and supportive team. You will provide legal support to the fee earners with both administrative tasks and fee-earning tasks on ongoing matters.
Your role will include, but will not be limited to:
- communicating with our clients by telephone and email,
- liaising with third party carers, case managers and our clients’ family members to ensure our clients are fully informed and supported in the round,
- developing an understanding of the practical applications of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the rules which govern professional deputies, trustees and attorneys,
- updating and maintaining financial accounts,
- keeping on top of key dates, for example, in relation to property & equipment services
- capturing and recording information, to present to your lead fee-earner, relating to decisions to be made and information needed for a decision to be made appropriately,
- attending meetings with your lead fee earner as notetaker,
- arranging for bills to be paid and
- corresponding with financial institutions.
All of the above will be carried out under the supervision and direction of more experienced professionals and solicitors.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who has an eye for detail, who will take their responsibilities seriously and who wants to use their skills to help our vulnerable clients. You will be keen to get stuck in and to help progress and resolve our clients concerns as and when they arise under the direction of your supervisors.
Patience and understanding are a crucial part of this role.
You will be approachable, keen to learn and will have a genuine interest in working as part of the Vulnerable Clients element of our Wealth Management team.
Good numeracy skills will be needed as the role involves basic accounting tasks for which training will be provided within the team.
Excellent communication skills are required and you will be comfortable liaising both with lay people and with fellow professionals. Your written language skills must be strong as you will be expected to draft correspondence.
The successful candidate will provide professional, proactive support to members of the Tozers’ Vulnerable Clients Team, joining then in working efficiently and effectively.
We pride ourselves on the high levels of client care that we give and anyone joining the Wealth Management Team will have our clients’ needs at the heart of everything they do. You will have a very high level of attention to detail and excellent communication skills. You will be confident in communicating with our clients and, under our lawyers’ direction, will be comfortable ensuring that clients have the information they need if our lawyers are engaged elsewhere.
What you’ll have
In such a busy team, experience of working in roles such as this would be beneficial. Nevertheless, we are open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You may be an experienced Court of Protection / Vulnerable Client paralegal looking for a new role, a Legal Secretary looking for the next challenge or you may have recently completed your academic studies and at the start of your career looking to build a challenging and rewarding career.
You will be very well organised and will enjoy organising others. You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude and will be happy to adapt to the requirements of the tasks facing you. You will be able to take a calm and sympathetic approach to direct contact with clients and their families.
We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate their initiative and problem-solving skills and how they have used these in your previous positions. Attention to detail, in all aspects of your work, is essential.
An ability to work closely with team members and a willingness to work as part of a team with the aim of achieving a common goal is essential.
You will also be able to balance a variety of responsibilities and be able to manage your time and workload efficiently. An aptitude for maintaining a calm approach to work within a busy working environment will be very helpful.
