Since joining the Hospiscare 40 Club in 2023, Tozers has been committed to raising much-needed funds for the local charity, which provides essential end-of-life care, a cause close to the hearts of both Tozers employees and our local community. The 40 Club, which consists of 40 local businesses each aiming to raise £1,000 annually for Hospiscare, has become a platform for local enterprises to unite in support of those suffering from a life-limiting illness and their loved ones across Devon.
In our first year as members of the 40 club we raised over £2,000 for the charity, double our original target and a result we were very proud of. For 2024/25 (April to March), we were thrilled to go even further, raising a total of £4,639.26 and significantly surpassing our expectations.
This impressive total was made possible through a series of events and initiatives led by Jessica Whittick and Sophie Palk, who worked tirelessly to maintain momentum throughout the year, including:
Music Bingo
The firm’s fundraising efforts began in May 2024, when we hosted our first-ever Music Bingo night at The Botanist in Exeter. The event brought together colleagues, friends, family, and contacts from other firms for an evening of live music, games, and great food. Led by local musician Alex Dobson, players marked off their bingo cards as he performed well-known hits across various genres. Prizes were up for grabs in each round, including prosecco, chocolate, and a £30 gift voucher. The evening wrapped up with a raffle featuring a signed Exeter Chiefs rugby ball, kindly donated by our sponsored player from the Exeter Chiefs, Olly Woodburn.
The Hospiscare Summer Walk
In July 2024, we joined the Hospiscare Summer Walk, a seven-mile sponsored walk starting from Darts Farm and leading along the Estuary. The event offered a chance to take in the Devon countryside while raising money for a vital cause. Employees, friends, families, and even pets took part and were treated to a cream tea and local refreshments along the way.
The Tozers Music Quiz
September saw Tozers host its first Music Quiz at The Mount Radford in Exeter. The event brought together colleagues and community members for a lively evening of music, laughter, and healthy competition! The event proved to be a resounding success, bringing together locals to test their knowledge and raise funds for Hospiscare.
Firewalk for Hospiscare
In October, a brave group of Tozers’ colleagues took on the Firewalk challenge, crossing hot embers barefoot! The event was not only an opportunity for personal achievement but also an essential fundraiser that continued the momentum of the team’s efforts.
The Tozers 2024 Roundup Quiz
In December, Tozers wrapped up the year with its 2024 Roundup Quiz at Revolution in Exeter. The event raised over £1,000 and was well-attended by local supporters keen to celebrate the year’s efforts.
12 Days of Care Campaign
Tozers also donated £500 to Hospiscare’s “12 Days of Care” campaign over the holiday season. The contribution helped fund 12 hours of specialist care on the ward, at a time when NHS funding had been reduced. This donation was particularly timely, as it helped bridge the gap caused by a reduction in funding from the Devon Integrated Care Board. The contribution ensured that patients received the care and attention they deserved, no matter the time of year.
Men’s Walk
On March 15, 2025, Tozers took part in the Men’s Walk, a 7-mile fundraising walk that culminated at Exeter’s Double Locks. After the walk, participants enjoyed a screening of the Six Nations rugby match and a well-deserved pasty, rounding off a fantastic day of community, camaraderie, and charitable giving.
Recognising success
As you can imagine, a huge amount of work goes into organising and coordinating the events listed above, and our Hospiscare 40 Club team, led by Jessie and Sophie, has done an outstanding job. We were proud to see their efforts recognised at the recent 2024/25 Hospiscare 40 Club celebration, held at The Hall in Exeter. Participating businesses came together to mark a collective fundraising total of £156,175. Even more impressively, Jessie and Sophie were jointly awarded the title of Most Determined Individual, a well-deserved recognition of their commitment and hard work.
What’s next?
Tozers are thrilled to have signed up to the Hospiscare 40 Club for a third year and have already started to fundraise. The year kicked off with a second Music Bingo event, this time hosted in Teignmouth and several of the firm are taking part in 100 miles in May challenge. Participants are invited to walk, run, cycle, roll, row or swim 100 miles throughout the month and raise funds for Hospiscare.
We’re always looking for willing volunteers to join in with our events, so please keep an eye on our social media for information on how to get involved throughout the year.
